A day of shared learning with Endeavour Medical

Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome four faculty members from Endeavour Medical to our base, where they hosted an introductory day for a group of junior doctors from across the South West.

The day began with short presentations from some of our volunteer team members, who introduced the work we do and our role in search, rescue and casualty care across some of Cornwall’s most challenging terrain. We also highlighted the wide range of skills within the team, with a particular focus on our medical capability – from advanced first aid and trauma care through to casualty packaging, prolonged care, and close working with ambulance and air assets.

Following the talks, we headed out into the valley to run a simulated missing person and medical incident exercise. This practical session gave everyone the opportunity to work together in a realistic environment, combining search techniques with patient assessment and treatment, before carrying out a safe evacuation.

The teaching faculty throughout the day were also Medical Fellows from the Emergency Department at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, as part of the NHS England Max Course, adding further depth and expertise to the training.

It was a fantastic day of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Our team members gained valuable insights from the medical faculty, and we hope the junior doctors found it equally useful to see how mountain and search and rescue medicine is delivered in the field. We’re very grateful to Endeavour Medical for spending the day with us and look forward to future opportunities to train and work together.
