Armed Forces Day
Did you know, 14 of our call-out members and trainees are either former or current members of the armed forces?
With Armed Forces Day this weekend, we’ve asked one of our team members how being involved in a search and rescue team is so appealing to service personnel…
‘About a third of West Cornwall SAR is ex-Forces – I think it appeals because it’s a tight knit, purpose driven team which makes a real difference. Many of the skills required will be familiar to anyone who’s spent time in uniform (eg: first aid/communications/navigation/teamwork/decision making) and there’s plenty of banter and camaraderie, but also a professional focus when training or doing the job for real.
‘If you’re looking for a new challenge with a great team of dedicated like-minded people, I’d really recommend it.’
Matt (former RAF helicopter pilot) – WCSAR Support Team Member and Trainee
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday some of our team members will be at the event in Falmouth. We have a stand at the Charities Zone in Church Street car park (just off the main high street and parade route).
We’ll have our 4×4 vehicle and plenty of equipment to see and try out. Hopefully we’ll see you there over the three days!
