Partnership Post – Coastguard Rescue Helicopter

Over the next few months we’re showcasing some of our partner agencies in search and rescue. When we get a call-out, many other colleagues from different organistions can also be involved. Some are paid, and some, like us, are volunteers.

8️⃣ Coastguard Rescue Helicopter

Bristow Group provide the 999 helicopter search and rescue service on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

They operate 10 strategically located helicopter bases around the UK, responding to incidents overland, around the coast and at sea. This includes the base at St Mawgan, near Newquay.

The service comprises of Bristow’s pilots, winch paramedics, winch operators, engineers and support staff.

Their crews respond to all forms of emergency – working closely with SAR partners: HM Coastguard Rescue Teams, Police, RNLI, mountain rescue teams and other first responders.

Missions undertaken range from locating fishermen reported overboard at sea or injured while at work, to mountaineers who have sustained injuries around the UK’s highest peaks, and supporting those in remote locations in need of urgent medical care only available in locations which can only be reached by air.
