Partnership Post – Coastguard Rescue Teams

Partnership Post – Coastguard Rescue Teams

Over the next few months we’re showcasing some of our partner agencies in search and rescue. When we get a call-out, many other colleagues from different organistions can also be involved. Some are paid, and some, like us, are volunteers.

2. Coastguard Rescue Teams

On many of our call-outs in West Cornwall, we’re not too far away from the water. So our team members often work alongside colleagues from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

West Cornwall and the IOS is part of the Area 11, which makes up 18 teams across the coast. Some are full-time staff, but the majority are volunteers like us, with a focus on the coast rather than inland. They are part of the HM Coastguard.

The teams can help rescue people trapped on the coast, assist authorities with flooding and other marine emergencies, provide coastal safety guidance and advice, as well as help search for missing people.

On searches, the Coastguard teams generally search the coastline and our team members search more inland – but there are sometimes crossovers.

We are supported by a number of Coastguard SRTs in West Cornwall, including:
