Partnership Post – Mountain Rescue Teams

Partnership Post – Mountain Rescue Teams

We’re showcasing some of our partner agencies in search and rescue. When we get a call-out, many other colleagues from different organisations can also be involved. Some are paid, and some, like us, are volunteers.

9. Mountain Rescue Teams

West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (WCSAR) operates a voluntary search and rescue capability across the far southwest of mainland Britain.

WCSAR is a member of Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW). Within MREW, the team works alongside it’s partner teams within the PenMaCRA (Peninsula Mountain and Cave Rescue Association) region.

We sometimes find ourselves accompanied on call-outs by other MREW teams from across the South West. This could be due to our team needing further support in West Cornwall, or a neighboring teams requesting support from our volunteers. We often train together as well in specialist areas such as rope rescue, water rescue, casualty care and search dog work.

Our closest team are our friends in East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team. Our areas encompasses the TR postcodes of Cornwall, whereas ECSRT cover the PL posts. There is crossover though on the borders and we often find ourselves supporting each other, being requested by Devon & Cornwall Police.

Other MREW teams in the PenMaCRA include:

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Plymouth
North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team
Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Tavistock
Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Ashburton
Exmoor Search & Rescue Team

And slightly further afield:

Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue
Severn Area Rescue Association
