Partnership Post – The RNLI
Over the next few months, we’re going to showcase some of our partner agencies in search and rescue. When we get a call-out, many other colleagues from different organistions can also be involved. Some are paid, and some, like us, are volunteers.
As it’s the weekend of King Charles’ coronation, this is a perfect Royal partner agency to begin with.
1. The RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service, seasonal lifeguards, water safety education and initiatives, and flood rescue response.
For any search near the coast (which is pretty common being on a peninsular in West Cornwall), often the RNLI Lifeboats, and sometimes RNLI Lifeguards are also tasked to assist.
They can search from the water, looking inwards towards land so can give a different and unique perspective. The crews can also help to provide safety cover for those searching near to the water – even operating at night.
We are supported by a number of Lifeboat stations in West Cornwall, including:
+ a large number of Lifeguard teams
Penlee RNLI with lifeguards on a joint training exercise
