Prof. Mike Tipton Talk – Drowning and Cold Water

On Friday evening we had the pleasure of hosting a talk by Prof. Mike Tipton from University of Portsmouth.

Almost 100 people – it was pretty much a full house – packed into a lecture theatre at Falmouth Uni to hear a fascinating talk on cold water immersion, drowning and hypothermia.

The audience comprised of medical students from Truro Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine Society (PHEMSoc), coastguards, lifeguards, paramedics, police officers, personnel from other Mountain Rescue England and Wales teams and members of the public with an interest in sea swimming.

Before the lecture, we were able to talk to the attendees about the team and then show them around our vehicles and kit.

Thanks to everyone who came along, Simon our Medical Officer for organising the evening and of course Prof. Mike Tipton for sharing his knowledge to the group.
