Welcoming a new Controller to the team
Last week, team member Ruth attended a week-long Lost Person Search Manager course, run by Devon & Cornwall Police.
While aimed at teaching the attending Police officers the skills needed in their new roles as search managers, the course allowed Ruth to learn the skills she will require as a team controller.
Our controllers work with the police during searches for high risk missing persons, discussing and implementing search strategies and managing our team on the ground.
The course culminated in a multi-agency search exercise to enable the course students to use their newly learnt skills in a simulated situation to manage a complex missing person scenario. All students passed and Ruth now joins our other team controllers, ready to manage the next call out.
Ruth says, ‘I enjoyed the course immensely and learnt so much over the week. I would like to thank Devon and Cornwall Police for making a space available on the course for a West Cornwall Search and Rescue team member and would also like to thank the team for putting me forward to attend. Thank you also to all of the volunteers from a number of search and rescue groups who attended the scenario day.’
