MEDICAL – Rough Tor (15/05/21)
As you may know, the team were out on Bodmin moor yesterday, running an assessment day for our probationary team members. During the exercise, team members were made aware of a teenage girl in a DofE group who had fallen from height on Rough Tor, sustaining a lower leg injury.
Our training was put on hold, and the closest team members were immediately dispatched to her location, with team cas-carers and our off-road ambulance close behind. With the possibility of a spinal injury not ruled out, we also requested assistance of Cornwall Air Ambulance who arrived on scene soon after.
After an initial assessment and treatment, the girl’s injuries were thankfully not too serious, and she was driven off the moor in the team ambulance to a waiting land ambulance. Our training then continued.
Although in East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team’s patch, we were able to liaise with their Team Leader and ensure the quickest possible response to the accident.
