At 02:21 hrs on Friday, 20th June, West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team was tasked by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist in a multi-agency search operation for a high-risk missing person in the Helston area.

Volunteers from West Cornwall SAR formed two foot teams and one Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England dog team.

These teams were tasked with conducting extensive ground searches within Helston, while Porthleven Coastguard Team conducted water-based searches in and around nearby creeks. Additional Coastguard foot teams were deployed to search the surrounding woodlands.

Search operations continued throughout the early hours of the morning. At approximately 05:30 hrs, the missing person was located alive and in reasonably good condition by one of the Coastguard search teams.

West Cornwall SAR team was then redeployed to the scene to assist with any potential extraction of the casualty, should this have been required.

Following treatment at the scene for minor injuries, the missing person was returned to the care of concerned family members by Devon & Cornwall Police.

The team was formally stood down at 06:28 hrs and our volunteers headed home to start the working day – having already been deployed earlier that morning.
