SEARCH – Nr Penzance (11-12/09/21)
This weekend the team were carrying out a peer review process with Mountain Rescue England and Wales, overseen by members from North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Plymouth and Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team.
Early Saturday afternoon, as we were just starting the desktop review of our operational management, we received a call-out from Devon & Cornwall Police, giving a real-time example of how we operate.
We were tasked to assist in the search for a missing 75-year-old male near Penzance. Team members were joined by the review team (including Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England dog Cassie) to search extensive areas of woodland, moorland and open fields into the late evening, alongside two Police dog teams and NPAS.
Team members then returned this morning (Sunday) to continue the search over a much wider area, joined by two foot teams from East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team in the afternoon. In total, 29 team members spent over 16 hours covering 52 search areas. With all high-priority areas covered, teams all stood down by 7pm with Police investigations continuing.
