On Sunday 10th May, West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team was requested by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist in the search for a high-risk missing person in the St Ives area.

A total of 12 volunteer Call-out Members attended, including a Controller and Search Dog Team from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.

Working in three teams, team members searched both rural and urban areas for more than nine hours. During the search, East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team was also requested to assist, alongside our colleagues from St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team, St Ives Lifeboat, plus additional Coastguard and Police teams.

At 18:00, West Cornwall SAR were stood down, while East Cornwall and some of our later-arriving team members continued searching into the evening. Further search activity took place the following day to cover remaining areas.

Later that afternoon, Devon & Cornwall Police confirmed that a body had been located.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this incredibly difficult time, and with everyone involved in the search.
