Legacy giving

Could you help our work across West Cornwall by leaving a gift in your will?

Have you ever thought about what will happen when you depart this world? For many people, setting their affairs in order and making a will is one of those low priority jobs that we never get around to. But if you die in Cornwall without making a will, your hard-earned monies could end up going into the Duchy coffers.

So making a will is important but once you have made provision for your loved ones, there is the opportunity to do something really wonderful as a lasting legacy in your memory.

Many charities rely on gifts left in the wills of supporters to meet increasing running costs or to pay for vital equipment or services.

At West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, we have no paid staff so any donation you are able to make will go directly to our life-saving work. You can make a general donation and let us decide how to make best use of it or you can specify what you want it to be used for – this might be, for example, where you want to retain a connection between your gift and your name.

Here are some examples:

  • A donation of £100 will pay for a full set of weatherproof maps of Cornwall for our team kit
  • A donation of £250 will help us keep up the skills of our members by attending specialist courses for water safety or off-road driving.
  • A donation of £500 would kit out a rescuer in full waterproof clothing.
  • A donation of £1000 could pay for vital kit for our rescuers such as ropes and rigging equipment or medical supplies.
  • A donation of £5000 will keep both of our vehicles on the road for 12 months.

So please consider making a donation to the team when drawing up your will. We rely wholly on the generosity of the Cornish public to meet our £20,000 p.a. running costs.
